Endings

“This is it, Joel. It’s gonna be gone soon.”
“I know.”
“What do we do?”
“Enjoy it.”

Desire and regret, regret and desire

If there is something to desire,
there will be something to regret.
If there is something to regret,
there will be something to recall.
If there is something to recall,
there was nothing to regret.
If there was nothing to regret,
there was nothing to desire.

– Vera Pavlova, Russian poet

We don’t need to fear endings. If we are sad when something ends, it means that there was something good and worthwhile in whatever it was that ended, and if it was good and worthwhile, then we will always have happy memories of it, and isn’t that all we have in the end of everything anyway?
